UAE has been at the forefront in trying to ensure equitable distribution of COVID 19 vaccines across the world. Speaking at the first meeting of the international forum that connects vaccine-producing countries with other stakeholders, the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation reiterated her nation's commitment to this noble cause.

The form, held via video conference, had representations from over 20 countries. The UAE with its highly sophisticated and advanced logistic infrastructure and storage facility has acted as a logistic hub in distributing vaccines across the world. With the help of a world-class airline network and class-leading airline network Emirates and Etihad have helped touch the lives of 3.6 billion people across the world.

Hope Consortium, a noble cause venture founded in the UAE has provided nearly 65 million vaccine doses to 40 countries. According to Al Hashemy, the country has further pledged $50 million to the COVAX initiatives for the effective storage, transport, and distribution of vaccines across the world. UAE, a leading player in supplying humanitarian medical supplies and preventive medical equipment, has sent the same to more than 135 countries around the world.

UAE has also been instrumental in funding state-of-the-art hospital facilities in many countries like Jordan, Mauritania, Sudan, Lebanon, Sierra Leone, to name a few.

Stark Contrast Between the Haves and the Have Nots

World in Data’s statistics revealed the stark contrast of how the vaccine is administered across the world. Around 4.36 billion doses have been administered globally of which only 1.1 percent has gone into low-income countries. The reality further kicks in when we learn that about 40.31 million doses of vaccine are administered each day.
